Lord, Teach Us to Pray
(part two)
(Luke 10:38-42)
Just before the disciple's request in Luke 11 ("
Lord, teach us to pray
") there is an event that captures the need of the hour. At the end of Luke 10, we read how Jesus was invited into the home of Mary and Martha. What happened that day is a picture of how God takes us into the School of Prayer.
Martha busily prepared to serve the Lord but Mary simply sat at His feet and listened. Martha was rattled by the need and finally couldn't keep quite. She spoke up and challenged the Lord to make Mary help. Martha said to Jesus:
"Don't you care that she has left me to do all the serving?
Then, tell her to help!"
The response of Jesus puts things into perspective. He said:
"Martha, Martha
you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
This is the Lord's Day and we are gathering to worship. Let's come together and sit at His feet and choose what is best! Let's don't just be busy about serving the Lord on the outside and fail to get in a position to learn from the Lord.
Is it possible that we could be so worried and upset that we miss what He wants to say? Could we spend our time comparing our service to others and fail to sit at His feet and listen?
Let's enroll together! Today, we will sit at His feet, focus on His Words and enroll in the School of Prayer. Father, I choose You and Your Words as the most important thing. Calm my heart and hear this prayer
..Lord, teach me to pray!
I make this request in Jesus' Name, Amen
